Julie's take

The Lucky Rodeo is built for budget-conscious travellers — couples or backpackers who want the basics covered without paying for space they won't use. You get a double bed, gas cooker, fridge and cooking equipment. Everything you need, nothing you don't.

That said, it's worth being clear about what this vehicle is. It works best as a base for outdoor camping, not as a mobile living room. Storage is limited, and the living space is tight. By day five, you'll notice it. If bad weather hits, you'll be relying on campground facilities rather than retreating inside — there's just not enough room to wait out a rainy afternoon comfortably. If you want to spend a lot of time living inside the van, there are better options.

First-timers who love being outdoors will do well here. First-timers who want a comfortable interior base, less so.

Two things to know before you drive off. The Rodeo isn't self-contained, so you'll need to stay at holiday parks or campsites that allow non-self-contained vehicles — plan your stops accordingly. And the fridge only runs when the engine is on, so think about that when you're shopping for food and planning longer stops.
