Lucky Rover is a 4 berth campervan that boasts a gas cooker, a fridge, two beds, rear seating and a kitchen. It's perfect for that group of 3 or 4 that want some seats in the rear cabin - get ready for an epic trip around New Zealand!

Julie's take

The Lucky Rover is built for groups of three or four who want a bit more room without spending a lot. You get two separate sleeping areas, an inside table and proper rear seating — so during the day you can actually sit and relax rather than shuffling beds and gear around.

For meals, there's a two-burner gas cooker and an 80-litre fridge. That's a proper setup for a week on the road. Storage is decent, but by day five you'll want to stay on top of it. Keep things organised from day one and you won't feel the pinch.

If you're travelling as a couple rather than a full group, use the double rooftop bed area for daytime storage. It keeps the living space clear and makes the van feel a lot bigger.

The honest trade-off: the Rover is well-loved rather than new. You can expect some wear and tear. Lucky does maintain their vehicles throughout their time in the fleet, but go in with realistic expectations and you'll be fine.

For power, don't plan to free-camp every night. Connect to a powered site every second or third night to keep the house battery topped up — factor that into where you stay and it won't catch you out.
