Maui

Maui – Premium Motorhome Experience Maui is the premium choice for travellers seeking a high-end motorhome experience. Featuring the newest fleet (generally under 2.5 years old), all vehicles are fully self-contained and designed for comfort, style, and reliability. Ideal for those who want to travel New Zealand in luxury, Maui offers modern interiors, premium features, and a seamless touring experience.

Julie's take

Maui are a premium brand of campervan hire who excel at high-end campervans and motorhomes.

Their biggest strength is age of fleet. Maui's vehicles are newer than most, so you rarely hear complaints about mechanical issues. That also means you're getting the latest upgrades available, not last decade's version.

Here's the catch: newer vehicles usually come with higher bond amounts. If you're not taking Maui's liability reduction options, check the bond before you book — it can be quite high.

Pickup is smooth. Maui is part of THL, which runs one of the largest campervan and motorhome fleets in New Zealand, so their depots are well set up. You get online check-in before you arrive, plus an app with instructional videos you can watch before your trip or while you're on the road if you need a refresher.

If something goes wrong out on the road, Maui's fleet size works in your favour — they've got a wide network of mechanics and depots for quick fixes. There's also a 24/7 roadside assistance line: On Road Assist on 0800 788 558 (+64 9 801 3857).

Maui suits travellers after a premium experience — people who want the freedom of a road trip but don't want to rough it.

For the vehicle, start with the Maui Ultima. It's built for two people who want something new, and it's packed with features while staying a manageable size to drive and park.

One more thing: if your trip crosses both islands, book your Interislander or Bluebridge ferry well ahead in summer — they sell out. And confirm your specific Maui model is cleared for ferry travel before you lock in your dates.
