Maui Elite

Julie's take

Maui Elite sits at the top end of the campervan and motorhome market. It's Maui's new-vehicle guarantee option — every Elite van is under a year old, which is exactly what it's known for. If having a guaranteed new vehicle matters more to you than saving money, Maui Elite is the pick.

That guarantee comes with a trade-off: bonds run higher than standard hires because the vehicles are newer. Look closely at the liability reduction options before you book, and if you decide to skip them, budget for that bond upfront so it doesn't catch you out at pickup.

Pickup itself is straightforward. Maui Elite sends an online check-in before your pickup date, and their mobile app lets you get familiar with the motorhome before you even arrive at the depot. It cuts down the usual pickup faff.

If something goes wrong on the road, you're in good hands. Maui is part of one of the largest campervan and motorhome networks in New Zealand, so there's a wide spread of depots and mechanics who can look at your vehicle. There's also a 24/7 roadside assistance line for anything urgent.

For the vehicle itself, we point most couples and solo travellers to the Maui Ultima Elite. It's one of the best campervans on offer and comes with the under-one-year guarantee that makes Elite worth choosing in the first place.

One more thing — if your trip covers both islands, book your Interislander or Bluebridge ferry crossing early in summer, and double-check your specific Maui Elite model is cleared for ferry travel before you commit to dates. Not every motorhome model gets automatic ferry clearance.
