The Pacific Horizon 2+1 is a mid-premium campervan built for families or flexible solo travel. It comes with one double bed and a single bed designed for children up to 8 years old — but here's the clever bit: you can set it up with just the single bed if you're travelling solo, giving you more living space for the entire trip.

This is a self-contained vehicle, so you can use New Zealand's free camping spots. Just remember you'll need to connect to powered sites every 2-3 nights to recharge, so limit your off-grid stays to one night at a time.

After five days on the road, space management becomes important. Pack soft luggage and stay on top of tidying up — it makes a big difference to how roomy the van feels. The layout works well for daily life once you get the hang of it.

First-time campervan renters will find this vehicle easy to drive and it covers all the basics for a great New Zealand trip. When you pick it up, spend time with the depot staff learning the different bed configurations and how all the facilities work before you head out.

The trade-off? Being a newer model means higher rental rates and it often sells out early. Book well in advance if you see it at a good price.
