The Queenie is a basic, affordable, certified self-contained hi-top campervan. It's built for budget-conscious travellers who want to get out on the road without spending more than they need to.
On paper it's a 2 berth, but that needs explaining. There's a double bed and a single bed — the single has a maximum weight limit of 40–50kg and is designed for a young child, not a second adult. If you're two adults, this is a one-double-bed vehicle.
It's an older model, so expect general wear and tear inside. That's the trade-off, and it's a fair one — you'll usually find it at a cheaper rate than newer vehicles on the market.
For a couple doing a week on the road, it can be comfortable, but storage is limited. Pack soft luggage, and when you pick up the van, unpack your bags into the storage inside straight away so the bags can be stowed out of the way. Keep things tidy as you go — it makes a real difference in a smaller space.
First-timers on a budget can do well in this vehicle, especially if you love being outdoors and don't need everything to be shiny and new. If a newer, more polished van matters to you, there are better options available.
When you collect the van, do a full walk-around and note any existing damage before you drive away. If you're travelling with a child and need to set up the single bed, ask the depot staff to show you how — same goes for emptying the toilet cassette or anything else you're not sure about. They're the experts, and it's much easier to ask while you're standing right there.
