If you want a comfortable, modern campervan for three, the Koru Star 3 Freedom is a great choice. It's an automatic VW Crafter with great driving comfort, strong safety features, and it's fully self-contained, so you've got the freedom to go off-grid.

You can choose between two bedding configurations depending on your travel group. Option A is the family setup: a double bed with a single bed positioned above, with a safety net protecting the little one while mum and dad relax or watch a movie below. Option B is the mates setup: three separate single beds for up to three adults. The third bed can even be removed and stored in a purpose-made compartment if you don't need it.

The trade-off is space. For three people, it can feel a little cosy after a week or two — it can get cramped on longer trips if you don't make use of the storage available and keep things tidy.

First-timers can handle this van fine. The only thing to watch is the van's size when parking and reversing, so take a few minutes to get comfortable with the controls before you drive off, especially the parking sensors and 360° camera.

One handy feature worth knowing about: the passenger airbag can be switched off for a rear-facing child seat. And if you go with bedding Option A, the single bed's safety net means your child sleeps securely.
