The Koru Star 2 Freedom LDV is a modern 2 berth automatic campervan, and it's a great fit for couples. It comes with adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera and good off-grid capability, so you're well set up whether you're staying in holiday parks or freedom camping.

One feature that doesn't show up in the spec sheet: the integrated heat exchanger gives you hot water without using any gas or electricity at all. It connects straight into the vehicle's cooling system, so once the engine's up to temperature, your shower water stays hot for up to 24 hours. It's a genuine highlight, not just a gimmick.

This van suits a couple who values comfort and easy driving over having loads of living and storage space. The trade-off is space — it's a compact 2 berth, so you give up some storage and living room. In return, you get a much easier-to-drive, modern camper that's really well suited to two people. Worth knowing too: the interior cabin height is 1.98m, so taller travellers can stand up easily inside.

We'd happily put a first-timer in this one. The automatic transmission, reversing camera and compact size make it relatively easy to drive if you've never taken a campervan out before.

One tip for pickup day: arrange a 'click and collect' online supermarket shop near your first night's destination. It saves you time and makes cooking dinner that first night a lot easier.
