This is a solid choice for a couple wanting to travel New Zealand without being tied to caravan parks. The Koru Star 2 Berth ST Premium is self-contained, meaning you can camp off-grid without needing external facilities.

It's one of the shorter 2 berth campervans in the Wendekreisen fleet, which makes it easy to drive and easier to park — good news if you're a first-timer or heading somewhere with tight spaces.

For a week on the road, it does the job well. The 2.5 litre diesel engine and manual transmission are straightforward, and the reversing camera takes the stress out of backing into a site.

One thing to know before you book: there are 3 seat belts, but only 1 double bed. If you're travelling with a third person, they'll need to sleep somewhere else.

Pack soft bags. Hard luggage will eat up your storage space fast — and after day five, you'll want that space back.

When you pick up, do a full walk around and photograph any existing scratches or damage. Take a photo of the dashboard too. It takes five minutes and saves a lot of headaches when you return the van.
